Nearly twenty-five thousand homes in Queensland's southeast were left without power on Monday morning after intense storm systems passed over the area, generating strong winds reaching 109km/h.

Substantial Hailstones and Extensive Damage

Locals witnessed giant hailstones as large as 7cm in certain regions. Meteorological experts announced that different parts across the state had been hit with significant hail.

Emergency crews were attempting to repair power throughout the impacted areas, with approximately seventy teams deployed to manage the widespread outages.

Victoria's Storm Challenges

At the same time, approximately 1,000 households in the southern state also faced electricity disruptions after the capital city recorded its wettest day in a year and a half.

Emergency response teams responded to over five hundred emergency reports across the state, mainly for structural issues but also for downed trees and flooding.

• Hoppers Crossing suburb - multiple assistance requests
• Wyndham area - 179 calls for assistance

During the peak on Sunday, in excess of twenty-eight thousand power users in the state were without power.

Weather Forecast

Humid circumstances were expected to linger along large portions of Queensland's east this week as a low-pressure trough continued to pull in damp air against the coastal areas.

The following day was predicted as the heaviest precipitation period, with persistent thunderstorm potential predicted across different parts of both areas.

Safety Concern

Health officials cautioned that there was an increased chance of epidemic thunderstorm asthma across the countryside regions, particularly given the current weather patterns.

This warning comes after historical occurrences where analogous circumstances led to significant health impacts in the state.
